Ikea will invest 10 million euros in Barcelona to open two urban stores, the new store format that the Swedish multinational promotes to bring its commercial offer closer to the center of cities. Barcelona's furniture mile is one of the locations chosen by the company for these stores. The store will be located at number 532 Avenida Diagonal, in a 1,525-square-meter store owned by Colonial.
La Diagonal is home to a large number of stores dedicated to furniture and will now add this new Ikea format. In fact, the multinational already has a planning space at number 445 of this road, inaugurated in 2021.
The Diagonal store will offer an exhibition of 2,500 products, the company has reported, of which 1,000 of them will be direct sales. In addition, it will offer the online assisted purchase service to access the entire assortment of the brand. It will also have a restaurant area, called Swedish Bite, measuring 51 square meters, with a terrace on the same avenue.
The second establishment will also open in summer in the Westfield Glòries shopping center. It is a 1,622 square meter premises on a single floor that will have an offer similar to that of the Diagonal: an exhibition of 2,500 products, 1,000 of them direct sales, and a food space. Both will also have Click services
Ikea has also chosen the Catalan capital to test a new space design service for companies. Thus, it will transform the establishment it already has at 445 Diagonal to test this new service, a pioneer in Spain. In total, the company expects to hire about 100 people directly to launch these new stores.
The multinational plans to increase its workforce in Catalonia by 18% in the next two years with the opening of up to twelve new contact points. Ikea currently has 18 points of contact or physical sales in Catalonia: the three large stores in Badalona, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Sabadell, five planning spaces and eight merchandise delivery points, as well as a distribution center in Valls.
