Identified the body of a girl who died almost 50 years ago in Florida

It has taken almost 50 years for the police in Palm Beach County (Florida, USA) to identify the body of a girl who was located in 1974. The minor, who was 15 years old when she was murdered, was found tied up from a tree in the area known as Burnt Bridges. Now it is known that her name was Susan Poole and the authorities ask for citizen collaboration to locate her mother after having indications that she is still alive.

Technological advances have made it possible to clear up the mystery that remained unresolved for decades. Detective Bill Springer has now set out to give "peace" to the victim's family and therefore he wants to find his mother, who is now over 90 years old.

Police also want to speak to three friends who lived near the victim, whose family reported her missing on Christmas 1972 in nearby Fort Lauderdale.

When Susan Poole disappeared, she was living with her parents and several siblings in a house from which she had previously fled, although it is unknown if this was the case or if she was kidnapped by her murderer.

The Police hope that the friends can give some new clue about this crime, although they already have a theory about what happened. The investigation indicates that Poole could have been the victim of a serial killer, a former police officer named Gerard Schaefer, who has since died and is believed to have killed around twenty girls and young people.

Upon finding Poole's body, authorities took DNA samples and entered them into the national database for unidentified persons.

However, it was not until late last year that experts from the company Othram Lab carried out genealogical tests on Poole's remains, analyzes that resulted in the identification of the victim.
