How much does Juan Roig earn? The leader of Mercadona reveals it: 11 million and 88 more in dividends

Juan Roig has made public today how much he charges for running Mercadona, the company of which he is the main shareholder. His remuneration in 2022 was 99 million euros, 11 million in salary and 88 million in dividends charged to the company's profits, which in 2022 were 718 million net.

In addition, he highlighted that the gross salary of a Mercadona employee with four years of seniority is 24,463 euros per year, to which must be added two extra payments that represent another 3,300 euros more. The company has increased the salary of its 99,000 employees the increase of the CPI. They all have a permanent contract.

The businessman then recalled that he lives in the Valencian Community, where the marginal rate of personal income tax is 54%, which means that more than half of those 99 million go to pay that tax, to which is added the Heritage tax, which in the Valencian Community it is also one of the highest in Spain.

For yet another year, both Juan Roig and the vice president of Mercadona, Hortensia Herrero, have underlined their commitment to society, by deciding to reinvest in it a significant part of the dividends from their participation in the company. In total, both have allocated 80 million euros of their personal assets in 2022 to different initiatives in the field of Entrepreneurship, Training, Sports, Entertainment, Art and Culture, which they have channeled through the Legacy Project.

This commitment, which began more than a decade ago and which will continue to be promoted in 2023 with another 100 million euros of their personal assets, stems from the common conviction of both that "knowledge and money bring happiness... if you share them" . Where appropriate, through different sustainable and solidarity projects, such as Marina de Empresas, Fundación Trinidad Alfonso, Valencia Basket Club, L'Alqueria del Basket, Licampa 1617 (Roig Arena) and Fundación Hortensia Herrero.

Regarding Marina Empresas, Juan Roig has made it clear that he will not move to Barcelona. "I am from Vila-real, it will stay in Valencia and we hope that the extension is approved or we will do something in Alicante".
