Hollywood wants to re-deliver the Oscars in all categories live

The next edition of the Oscars could once again have news. Or, rather, stay as it was in the beginning. The new CEO of the Hollywood Academy, Bill Kramer, acknowledged on Wednesday his desire that the winners of all categories be announced live again, as has always happened, except for the last ceremony.

The controversy was not lacking in the last gala, where the technical categories were announced before the live broadcast of the gala began. The decision generated a lot of criticism in the sector and now it could be thrown back.

"I would love to see all the artistic and scientific disciplines honored on the show; previous Oscar winners on stage; celebrations of past iconic wins," Kramer said in an interview in A. Frame, the digital magazine of the Academy of Arts. and Cinematographic Sciences.

Of the 23 categories that make up the Oscars, eight were announced before the start of the gala on March 27, with the public already seated at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles (USA). Then, during the broadcast, a summary with the reactions of the winners was broadcast.

The Oscars justified it as an attempt to make the gala more entertaining, but it didn't sit well with the industry. The change also reduced the Hispanic presence in the ceremony, since it included sections in which the Spaniards Alberto Iglesias competed, for the soundtrack of Parallel Mothers, and Alberto Mielgo, candidate for Best Animated Short for The Windshield Wiper, in addition to the Chilean Hugo Covarrubias, candidate for the same award with Bestia.

In 2018, the Academy already announced its intention to remove the technical awards from the gala and deliver them during the commercial break, something that it ultimately ruled out after the rejection of the movie community.
