Holaluz abandons the gas supply and transfers its customers to the regulated market

The Catalan company Holaluz abandons the gas supply for the 70,000 customers it has in this energy. As explained by Carlota Pi, founder of the company, the decision is made in the interest of the company to put customers at the center even if that means losses.

Specifically, Pi explained that Holaluz has been making money from its gas supply business since 2015, when it started, and that it has continued to do so even since the outbreak of the energy crisis last year. The decision to end this business will mean that it will stop earning 3.5 million euros this year and revise the profit forecasts of 6 million expected for 2023.

"We think that the gas market is broken and we have put our customers at the center of our policy. If we continue with this business, we would have to charge them between 5 and 6 times more than what they will pay if they are at the rate regulated by the Government. ", he assured.

That is why Holaluz is going to accompany its 70,000 gas customers to transfer their contracts to the regulated rate, known as TUR. "We hope that our initiative is copied by other companies and that all customers pass their contracts to the TUR because it is the best way to face next winter. Otherwise, there will be families who cannot afford the cost of the bills," Pi warned. .

Carlota Pi has explained that the decision to take this average has been hard for Holaluz but it is in line with the philosophy of putting customers at the center and betting on the supply of green energy, even though this is detrimental to the company in the short term.

The founder of Holaluz assures that “The European electricity market has collapsed”, with prices that no longer mark the exchange between supply and demand, but rather are contaminated by geopolitical tension that is impossible to control.

On the other hand, the decision does not imply any harm to its 70,000 gas customers, quite the contrary. “There is a much cheaper alternative. We couldn't tackle the winter by forcing our customers to pay 5 or 6 times more than the regulated rate. ”, He assured.

And finally, this decision allows Holaluz to focus on what Pi calls “the roof revolution”. That is to say, his commitment to bring photovoltaic energy to all the roofs of Spain and not only to those of single-family homes.

“When the roof revolution triumphs, we will return to prices of 30 or 40 euros MWh for the next 30 years. It is yes it is a long-term structural solution ”, has assured the directive. At the same time, ruling out any hint of confidence that the measures being taken by the leaders of the European Union to stop the rise in gas prices next winter can be operational. “. Europe has nothing to do with the price of gas because the price is set by the gas producers and it will not go down to the price offered by the regulated tariff for this winter”.
