Higuaín and his surprise when discovering Lewandowski's price

Gonzalo Higuaín, at 34 years old, is completing his second full season in the ranks of Inter Miami, David Beckham's club, which made him, upon his arrival, the highest paid player in MLS. Tonight, at 02:00 in the morning from Tuesday 19 to Wednesday 20 July, he will face FC Barcelona at his stadium, kicking off the Barça team's North American tour.

In an interview prior to that match for the Tot Costa program on Catalunya Ràdio, the Argentine striker learned of the cost of Barça's star signing, Robert Lewandowski, and was surprised. "Forgive my ignorance, it was free, right?" Higuain replied when asked about the hiring of the Blaugrana team. Upon discovering that he had cost 45 million euros fixed plus 5 in variables, he reacted with astonishment. "50 million euros? It has to be a great signing if Barça paid that money," he replied.

The Argentine striker compared the price of the Polish striker with the amounts that were paid in his best years in Spain. "In today's football it seems like nothing, but when I went to Madrid in 2006 you had to be a supercrack for this money. Now with inflation, the arrival of the Arabs... it's different, but you also have to be very good at that they pay 50 million for you at 34 years old," he reflected.

Higuaín knew how to recognize the footballer's quality, referring to his successes with Bayern Munich in past seasons and assuring that "he is one of the best strikers in the world in the last ten years". He also compared him to Karim Benzema, his former teammate at Real Madrid who is shining more than ever in the white shirt. "There is no age in football. Look at Benzema, at 35 years old he scored 15 goals in the Champions League. Robert is an animal, I think Barça made a great signing", resolved the 'Pipita'.

Gonzalo Higuaín left Europe after passing through Juventus and his two consecutive assignments to Milan and Chelsea, a team with which he became champion of the Europa League in 2019 despite his limited participation. In September 2020 he joined Inter Miami as a free agent, where he has also not been able to find the regularity that he surely expected.

In his first season, already in its final stretch, he played nine games, scoring one goal and captaining the team seven times. In his first full year he played 30 games, scoring twelve goals and dishing out six assists. This campaign, of 20 games that Inter Miami has played in the regular season, the Argentine has participated in 14, contributing four goals and one assist.
