Health workers and teachers call a strike against the Government of Ayuso for the 35 hours

The health and education unions of the Community of Madrid have called a joint strike this Friday with the 35-hour work week as the main demand addressed to the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, two days before the municipal and regional elections.

In statements to journalists, the Minister of Health, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, said Thursday that this strike has an "absolutely political character" and "the only thing it seeks is to generate more conflict in the face of the May 28 elections," reports Eph.

In the health field, more than 78,000 professionals from the Madrid Health Service (Sermas) are called to participate in this day of strike promoted by four of the five majority unions in the sector, Satse, CCOO, CSIT Unión Profesional and UGT.

It will be the third day of strike promoted by these four unions, after those of April 19 and May 8, with a set of labor and remuneration claims, among which the 35-hour weekly day stands out, without the Madrid Executive having done "nothing" to unblock the conflict.

Their demands also include putting an end to the loss of purchasing power that has been dragging on since the 2012 cuts, a new plan for primary care and the start of the negotiation of the emergency and emergency plan are also among their demands.

These four unions also urge the regional government to comply with important agreements for the operation of the Madrid Health Service, such as the agreement for centers with difficult coverage, signed in April 2022; the updating of the professional career model of 2007, as well as the fulfillment and execution of the thousands of judicial sentences won years ago by professionals.

This same Friday, there will be partial strikes in the Madrid health system -from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00- as well as a concentration in front of the Hospital de La Princesa at noon, called by the minority unions Mats, SummAT and the Madrid Nursing Association (AME), with the support of the Madrid Association of Medical Specialists (AFEM) and the Rural Care Services Platform (SAR).

In the field of education, more than 54,000 Madrid teachers are called to join the day of strike planned by the unions CCOO, CSIT Unión Profesional and UGT to "join forces" with health with the aim of "getting to reduce the schedule of all public employees and improve the quality of education in the Community of Madrid".

Among their requests, the return to the schedules they had in 2011 stands out with the purpose of going from 20 school hours in Secondary to 6:00 p.m. and from 25 school hours in Primary to 11:00 p.m., a modification that occurred due to the situation economic crisis that existed at that time and that had no pedagogical foundation, according to the conveners.

Likewise, they request a drop in the ratios (number of teachers per students) and a reinforcement of the templates in the profiles of attention to diversity, counselors and specialists in Infant and Primary.

The Federation of Associations of Parents and Mothers of the Student Francisco Giner de los Ríos, made up of a thousand entities, has expressed its support for the strike considering that for years "education in the Community of Madrid has suffered destructive policies that have led to a real educational failure".

This Friday, there will be a rally in front of the Ministry of Health, located at number 29 Calle Aduana, at 12:00 p.m., and an hour later, at 1:00 p.m., there will be another in front of the Ministry of Education , located at number 32 Calle de Alcalá.
