Has Gal Gadot lied? DC Denies Plans for 'Wonder Woman 3'

Gal Gadot has been left wanting to get back into the skin of Wonder Woman in a third installment of the saga that made her famous in 2017 under the direction of Patty Jenkins. Although the Israeli actress recently announced that she had spoken with the current heads of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, and that they had promised her that a new project about the adventures of the superheroine created by William Moulton Marston for the publisher was in development DC Comics, the studio has disassociated itself from its words.

As reported by Variety, neither Gunn nor Safran have plans to make Wonder Woman 3. The first film was a box office success, while Wonder Woman 1984 had a hybrid release during the pandemic -it was released in theaters and on HBO Max- without great benefits and weak criticism that did not help to think about a possible continuation. Despite that, Gadot's interpretation was very popular and she and Jenkins planned to do the third part together again.

However, the filmmaker's vision does not seem to coincide with that of Warner Bros. and she ended up abandoning the plan to move forward last December. All of this was happening while Gunn and Safron were building strength at DC Studios and were clear that Wonder Woman 3 was not on their list of future titles. That is why the words of a very confident Gadot on the subject surprised us a week ago. “I love playing Wonder Woman. She is something very near and dear to me. From what I have heard from James and Peter is that we are going to develop Wonder Woman 3 together, ”said the actress during the promotion of Agent Stone, an action thriller in which she stars and which arrives on Netflix this Friday. "They invited me to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and what they told me, I quote, was 'you are in the best hands, we are going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you.'"

At the moment, the 38-year-old interpreter has not ruled on the refusal of the study, which is focused on the new releases that will make up a reboot of the DC universe. Among them, Superman: Legacy, whose premiere is scheduled for July 11, 2025, and Paradise Lost, an HBO Max series that, by focusing on the Amazons of Thermyscira, is understood as a prequel to Wonder Woman.

Gadot has appeared as the superheroine in recent DC film projects making brief cameo appearances in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League or the most recent Flash, which has not worked at the box office. Outside of the warrior princess costume, she will soon embody the evil queen of Snow White under the orders of Marc Webb and will become Cleopatra herself under the direction of Kari Skogland in a story that Patty Jenkins should have made.
