Guardiola, a month and several changes of opinion

The Popular Party and Vox have finally reached a government agreement in Extremadura. One month after knowing the electoral results, María Guardiola will be invested as president of the Junta de Extremadura with the support of Vox, which will enter the regional government despite the fact that, initially, the PP leader had rejected this option. "My words are not as important as those of Extremadura," Guardiola admitted trying to justify the government pact.

This is the summary of the changes of opinion of the candidate for the presidency of the Board:

Despite being the second force and obtaining the same regional deputies as the PSOE (28), María Guardiola celebrates the electoral results of Extremadura as a victory.

Together with the five representatives that Vox obtains, they would add up to the absolute majority. The far-right formation asks María Guardiola to "throw out the Socialists".

Guardiola declares his intention to "govern alone" and shows "hope" in the abstention of the Socialist party. As for Vox, she says she is "convinced that they want the same thing as us and the people of Extremadura".

After almost two weeks of blockade, the Popular Party shows its willingness to seek an agreement with Vox "whenever and wherever it wants".

Guardiola's statements come in the form of a reply to Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, who stated days before that the PP "has not yet shown its desire to negotiate with VOX".

change of third After two weeks of frustrated talks, María Guardiola has changed completely and is open to repeat elections if Vox does not support her investiture.

He affirms that he could not "enter the government of those who deny sexist violence, those who use the bold stroke, those who are dehumanizing immigrants and those who unfurl a canvas and throw an LGTBI flag into the trash can." In addition, he blames them for having "put their lust for power before change."

Guardiola attends the investiture of Isabel Díaz Ayuso in Madrid where he meets the barons of the Popular Party. Some leaders express their discomfort with how he is handling the negotiation and particularly with his criticism of Vox.

The tone of the popular leader changes again after this meeting and the positions between Vox and the PP are getting closer again. Guardiola underlines through a letter to the militancy his "respect" for Abascal's formation and opens the door to a programmatic agreement.

While the negotiations between Vox and the PP are getting closer again, the date of Vara's inauguration is getting closer.

In this context, Guardiola asks the president of the Assembly, Blanca Martín, to leave the candidacy of the socialist Guillermo Fernández Vara for a "failed" investiture on "stand-by" for a few "days" to continue talking with Vox.

The end of the soap opera ends after more than a month of contrary statements and several changes of position and with the PP and Vox announcing that they have finally reached an agreement. As announced by the far-right formation, Vox will occupy the Ministry of Forest Management and Rural World while the president of the Board will be María Guardiola.

The government agreement between PP and Vox is not easy for Guardiola to justify after a month of criticizing the far-right party and trying to distance positions. "I understand that there are disappointed people", she has stated, who will be the new president of the Board.

Guardiola has ended the story by adding that his word, which has been changing throughout the negotiations, "is not as important as Extremadura".
