Goirigolzarri defends that the biggest merger in banking history "has been completed successfully"

The president of CaixaBank, José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, has assured that this year closes having completed "with great success" the largest banking merger in the history of Spain, which has united CaixaBank and Bankia.

This has been stated by Goirigolzarri in a message addressed to the shareholders of the entity in which he takes stock of 2022, a brief speech in which he also confirms that the bank will allocate "at least 50%" of its profits to remunerate shareholders , as provided for in the strategic plan until 2024 presented last May.

"2022 has been a very important year for CaixaBank. It has been the year in which we have successfully concluded the largest merger in the history of our country", highlighted the manager, who added that the bank has laid "the foundations " to achieve the objective that was set with this merger: "Lead the transformation of the financial sector".

The president of the entity explained to the shareholders that the context is marked by "radical changes in the political, geostrategic, economic and social spheres", with trends "of strong impact" on society and on the banking business "such as digitization or the transition to a more sustainable economy".

Faced with these challenges, Goirigolzarri has called for a banking model that is "very inclusive and very close to families and companies, as well as to society".

He also highlighted the "excellent positioning" of the bank, its unique distribution model, its "very healthy" balance sheet, its "very well defined" strategy and the professionalism of the bank's staff.

"All of this will contribute decisively to continuing to improve the profitability of CaixaBank and its profits, which, in turn, will lead us to an improvement in remuneration for all our shareholders, fulfilling the objective of our strategic plan of distributing to least 50% of our profits", concludes Goirigolzarri in his message to the shareholders, whose confidence he calls "key" to the future of the bank.
