Girona opens the patio of the Dalmau Carles school during the summer

From now on and throughout the summer, the citizens of Girona will be able to use the Dalmau Carles school playground in the afternoons. This is a pilot test that the Girona City Council is undertaking and whose objective is to provide the neighborhoods of Santa Eugènia and Can Gibert del Pla with one more space for sporting activities and dynamic games.

During the months of July and August, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the school playground will be open from Monday to Friday. There will be a social integration person who will ensure that the space is used properly and, at the same time, will strengthen the relationship between those who come to the school playground. Although it will be prioritized as a play space for families and young people, the aim is also to encourage intergenerational coexistence.

"This action is valued as an opportunity to promote intergenerational coexistence and attend to the interests and needs of people of various age groups, despite the fact that it is prioritized as a safe play and relational space for children and young people and their families ”, they emphasize from the City Council.

The council wants to expand the open patios project to more neighborhoods in the city. With this proposal, the aim is to regulate the use during non-school hours of the playground of municipally owned infant and primary schools to meet the needs of the neighbors and, especially, to provide children and young people with a space to develop the game in safe environments.

The open patios should also be a space where the presence and neighborhood involvement of all age groups of the population is favored; a place that can become a good neighborhood meeting point over time and a place that can be a climate refuge at certain periods of the year”, they affirm from the Girona City Council.

The Councilor for Education, Queralt Vila, has visited the patio: "Open patios are spaces that, with good revitalization, favor educational opportunities, relationship dynamics between equals and between different generations and socio-educational intervention outside school hours", has underlined.

“We want them to be community projects where the game can be developed in a safe environment, we want them to be a meeting point and link them well with the community plan and the educational plan of the corresponding environment”, concludes Vila.
