Girona extends the Fred Plan for syndicates until the end of April, another month

Girona City Council will start Fred's Plan for the homeless on November 28 and will extend it until April 28, one month longer than it lasted last year.

The Councilor for Equality and Social Justice, Amy Sabaly, explained that the service remains in the old UNED building and will have 45 beds, of which 6 will be for women, 3 for young people and 2 for exceptional situations. All homeless people who want to spend the night at UNED will have to be referred by Sopa or the Jóvenes360 team.

Women, people over 70 years of age and people with disabilities will also be cared for without being referred for any service. Users of Fred's Pla will also have complementary services, such as shower or laundry services.

The intention of the council's government team is to be able to expand the capacity of available places in exceptional cases such as cold waves. In this case, more beds will be placed in the same building and they do not rule out reserving places in the city shelter, as has been done in other years.

The head of the People Service Area, Marc Geronès, has detailed that usually in these extraordinary situations they make available twenty more places, reaching 70.

Users will be able to shower and wash clothes as complementary services that Pla de Fred will offer. Geronès has announced that they are working so that these complementary services go beyond Fred's Plan and can be offered all year round.

The Councilor for Equality and Social Justice, Amy Sabaly, has stressed that Fred's Plan is "a temporary solution" that they give to the homeless so that they can spend the night on the coldest nights.

The local government is working to ensure that this service has continuity and becomes a Low Demand Center that is open all year round.

Sabaly has detailed that they are speaking with other administrations such as the Girona Provincial Council or the Generalitat to agree on how the new center is structured.
