Gerard Piqué completes an agreement to lower his salary at Barça

Barcelona continues to work on the race to register the five reinforcements for this summer and the two renewals so that everyone can play in the first day of the League on Saturday against Rayo. Along these lines, the club has reached a framework agreement with Gerard Piqué so that the defender lowers his salary in the two seasons remaining on his contract and which is the extension that he had agreed with the previous president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The new contract of one of the Barcelona captains is not yet closed but it could be announced shortly, before Friday. Since in this way, the savings in Piqué's salary will provide a significant gain in salary margin within the financial fair play that LaLiga asks of the clubs.

Piqué already accepted a reduction last summer so that Barcelona could register Memphis and Eric Garcia for the 21-22 season. The 35-year-old center-back is ready for a new gesture to help the entity.

He is not the only one because Sergio Busquets is also in negotiations with the club to carry out a new reduction in his emoluments. The predisposition of the first captain is good.

The two pacts would be a good complement to register players on time. Of course, the main argument of the club is to activate the fourth lever with the sale of another 24.5% of Barça Studios, as requested by LaLiga since last week. The board of directors has approved the operation that is being formalized in the next few hours for another 100 million euros, the same amount in which the first sale of 25% of that branch to Socios.com was closed.

As long as Barcelona does not get the registration of its five signings (Lewandowski, Koundé, Raphinha, Christensen and Kessie) plus that of the renewed Dembélé and Sergi Roberto, the sports leadership has paralyzed all efforts to bring in more signings. The reason is to avoid creating more tension in the economic department. That means that Marcos Alonso will have to wait at least for the first day of the League to be played.

Once the problem of that first game has been resolved, then yes, Barça will go for the 31-year-old left-back from Chelsea, with whom they have an agreement to wear a Blaugrana for two courses plus an optional one.
