Gattuso confirms that he will train Valencia

The Italian Gennaro Gattuso confirmed this Wednesday that he will be the new coach of Valencia in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. The Italian will replace José Bordalás, who last Monday said goodbye to the club after a season in which the team reached the final of the Copa del Rey and finished the Liga Santander in a discreet ninth position, far from Europe.

After the official announcement from Valencia to confirm the dismissal of the Alicante native, Gattuso himself announced that he will arrive in Spain as the new coach of the Valencian team, where he will compete against his compatriot Carlo Ancelotti, who was his coach at Milan, the team with which he won two Champions League, among other titles.

"I always support Carlo (Ancelotti). How can I not do it? I won 11 trophies with him. He is a master. He manages all the groups. He did it 30 years ago and he does it now, as he showed at Real Madrid. It will be great to find him in the field, in the League", declared the former Milan player, where he spent 13 seasons, from 1999 until his retirement in 2012.

In addition, the Italian addressed the fans directly, asking them to judge him only for his work after the controversies that have surrounded his figure in recent weeks, in which he was branded a racist. Gattuso began his coaching career at Palermo in 2013. Later, in 2014, he managed the modest OFI Crete in Greece and the following year he returned to Italy to take charge of Pisa.

He made the jump to Serie A in 2017 with Milan, the club of his life, where he spent two seasons. His last experience on the bench was with Napoli, between 2019 and 2021. Last year he signed with Fiorentina at the beginning of the course, but did not lead the Viola team due to disagreements with the board. He will now land in Valencia, although the Valencian club has not yet made his hiring official.
