Gasoline and diesel fall to the lowest since April

Fuel prices give Spanish drivers a joy this week. Gasoline has become cheaper by 4% this week, up to 1,597 euros per liter, and diesel by 3%, to 1,606 euros on average, always taking into account the discount of 20 cents from the Government.

This is reflected in the Oil Bulletin of the European Union (EU) this Thursday and which includes the references of the last week based on 11,400 service stations. These are minimums since April in the middle of the summer season, leaving behind the psychological barrier of 2 euros that has been maintained in recent months at the pumps.

Despite these decreases, compared to a year ago and without taking into account the discount of 20 cents, gasoline is 27% more expensive and diesel has a price 43% higher.

If you look at other countries, the most expensive gasoline in mid-August is in Finland, with 2,122 euros per liter, followed by 2,116 euros in Denmark. The Netherlands also exceeds the level of 2 euros, with 2,061 euros, like Greece and its 2,043 euros. The most expensive diesel is also seen in Denmark, with 2,018 euros per liter, for 1,872 euros in Romania or 1,822 in the Netherlands.

On the other hand, going through the gas station is cheaper in Hungary, with 1,294 euros per liter of gasoline. It is followed by Malta, with 1.34 euros per liter for gasoline and 1.21 for diesel, the cheapest figure for this fuel in the EU.

The rise in fuel prices has been one of the key factors that has marked the increase in inflation in Spain, which is at levels not seen in four decades, at 10.8%.
