The Dictionary of the Spanish language does not admit proper names in its lemmas, but it does in its definitions. This is how Gabriel García Márquez and Julio Cortázar have entered it through their adjectives: garciamarquiano and cortazariano, which refer to his work ("La prosa garciamarquiana"), his characteristics ("Two very cortazarianos stories") or his admirers and followers.
These two adjectives are some of the 3,152 novelties and modifications that have been presented in the RAE this morning. This is version 23.6 of the Dictionary of the Spanish language (DLE), prepared by the Royal Spanish Academy in collaboration with the rest of the language academies of other Spanish-speaking countries, grouped in the Asale.
The director of the RAE, Santiago Muñoz Machado, and the director of the DLE, Paz Battaner, have detailed some of these novelties, which affect the general lexicon, that is, the words used in all areas of communication, without enter into the terminological specificities of each field of knowledge.
Among the novelties are conspiracy, ageism, micromachismo, planned obsolescence, panettone and panetone (the American and peninsular version of the Italian sweet) or gamer. Dotcom has also entered, the name with which the first companies that operated on the Internet were known.
Among the extensions of meaning, the addition in the cut entry, in its sixteenth meaning, of the meaning of "Piece of ice cream that is cut from a bar and eaten between two cookies" is surprising.
In this version, already available online, you can find new additions related to the technological field, such as big data, electronic commerce, data mining or useful life.
From the natural sciences, words belonging to zoology are incorporated, such as dingo, warthog and manta ray, and to the field of medicine such as cortisol, hyperimmune, lidocaine or single dose.
From now on it will no longer be necessary to talk about crowdfunding, since the DLE incorporates crowdfunding and crowdfunding. Note that many of these words were already in general use and, now, what the academic institution does is give them legal status with normative fixation.
