From 'Crimes' to haute couture or mass graves: the Palau Robert turns 25 years old

The Palau Robert, a neoclassical building that was the residence of the Catalan aristocrat, financier and politician Robert Robert i Surís, celebrates 25 years as an artistic and cultural center dependent on the Generalitat. An event that arrives with record numbers of visitors (after successes such as Feminista havies de ser, Tricicle Clic or Underground i contracultura a la Catalunya dels 70, the exhibition dedicated to the video game industry in Catalonia, Nova Screen, has just closed its doors with 120,000 visits, one of the highest figures in its history) and a new program of exhibitions that, as Difusió General Director Ignasi Genovès points out, wants to respond to the motto “project Catalonia in the world and the world in Catalonia”.

Inaugurated as a cultural facility on November 17, 1997 under the leadership of Xavier Trias, the Palau Robert will celebrate its anniversary with a commemorative exhibition in the Aparador and a party, on the 17th, in which a mapping will be projected on the façade of the building and various artistic interventions will take place both inside the palace and in the gardens. As for the program for this second quarter of the year, the center directed by Elisabeth Abad will offer a total of ten exhibitions and for the first time will host the Kronos Festival, which was traditionally held at the Ars Sant Mònica. This contest, which will pay tribute to the musician and writer Víctor Nubla with a concert by Macromassa, will bring together works by diverse artists such as Banksy, Miquel Barceló, María María Acha-Kutscher, Colita, David Lachapelle, Gerard Mas, Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada and Lolo

Among the most outstanding exhibitions is Crimes, Carles Porta's program on black chronicles which, after its radio and television format, gave rise to a book and is now unfolding in an exhibition that wants to be an immersive experience (from mid-October) . Modernity by Gabriel Casas i Galobardes, an exhibition about the great Barcelona photographer of the 20s and 30s that could be seen at the Palau de Caldes d'Estrac Foundation will arrive at the Paseo de Gràcia space on October 10. A month later, the Palau Robert will travel to the golden age of Catalan haute couture through the history of the Santa Eulàlia store itself, and from December the Memoria democrática exhibition. Where are they? will delve into the subject of mass graves.

The writer Jordi Sierra i Fabra (from 13/IX to 30/X) or the politician Ramón Trías Fargas (from 1/X to 13/XI) will be other names on the programme, which will also review the history of the Catalan PEN (from 8/IX to 20/XI) and will commemorate the 30 years of 324 news (from 1 to 31/X).

And already in the activities section, highlights the launch of a series of concerts, Catwoman, dedicated to music made by women. Those in charge of opening it will be Lídia Pujol and Gemma Humet with two concerts on October 2 and November 13, respectively.
