The former councilors Miquel Sàmper and Santi Vila, both from Junts’ orbit, have joined this Wednesday the platform of support for the PSC’s candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa.

Sàmper, who was Minister of the Interior in Quim Torra’s Government and became one of the most active in encouraging the departure of Junts from the Government in October 2022, left the party last February, alleging an “ideological fracture.” “, after the ‘no’ of the independence party to the amnesty law in the Congress of Deputies. Vila was part of the governments of the Generalitat in different stages, first as Minister of Territory in the Government of Artur Mas, and then as head, first of Culture and then of Business, already under the presidency of Carles Puigdemont, but he resigned when the Catalan government decided to bring the unilateral declaration of independence to the Parliament in October 2017.

The platform supporting Illa’s candidacy has the support of more than 200 personalities. Thus, Sàmper y Vila join Josep Maria Bricall, Victòria Camps, Isabel Coixet, Núria Espert, Abel Folk, Nacho Corredor, Meritxell Batet, Leire Pajín, Chelo García-Cortés, Tito Álvarez, Josep López de Lerma, Javier Mariscal, Roger Pera, Mònica Randall, Joan Manuel Serrat, Abel Folk and Jorge Javier Vázquez, among others.

Those who adhere to the platform sign a manifesto that defends “a president capable of representing all citizens, who works to unite and avoid dividing, who is more dedicated to obtaining results than to looking for trouble, who is committed to dialogue and cooperation and avoid dispute and confrontation.”

“We want a government that works, that faces the problems that have been ignored, that is capable of doing well what has been done badly, that practices close collaboration with all administrations, especially with city councils,” the manifesto highlights. “For this reason,” the signatories add, “we are convinced that Salvador Illa is now appropriate.”
