Food alert due to the presence of a drug for erectile dysfunction in some snacks

The French authorities have detected tadalafil, a drug for erectile dysfunction, in some snacks manufactured in Spain. The European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (Rasff) has just issued a food alert with the details of this incident, which it qualifies as "serious".

The affected product is marketed in the form of aphrodisiac honey bars, and is reported in the category of "dietary foods, food supplements and fortified foods" on the official alerts website.

From Facua-Consumers in Action they explain that tadalafil is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and that it belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase inhibitors. This increases blood flow to the penis to cause an erection, they clarify.

The Rasff has not yet released important details about the product such as the brand or the batch. "This lack of information makes it impossible for consumers to verify if they have purchased or consumed this product in order to make returns or avoid putting their health at risk," criticizes Facua.

The association believes that these European alerts include a broader explanation in order to know at least the main data of the product.

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has not yet shared any information on its website, despite the fact that the Rasff alert is from August 2.
