Five Spanish films compete for the European Film Awards

Five Spanish films are shortlisted for the European Film Awards. This was reported yesterday by the European Film Academy, which recalled that the gala will be held on December 10 in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavík.

The films in question are Alcarràs, by Carla Simón; Maixabel, by Icíar Bollaín; Parallel Mothers, by Pedro Almodóvar; As Bestas, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, and Pacifiction, by Albert Serra, the entity said in a statement.

The second shortlist, which will include between ten and fifteen titles, will be announced in September. These awards are eligible for European feature films that, among other criteria, have a European director and have had their first official screening between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022.

The list of films for this 34th edition also includes other titles such as Belfast, by Kenneth Branagh; Tori and Lokita, by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne; Triangle of sadness, by Ruben Östlund; As far as I can walk, by Stefan Arsenijevic; and Close, by Lukas Dhont.

In the coming weeks, the 4,400 members of the academy will begin viewing the films and once the second list is announced, they will vote for nominations in the categories of European film, director, actor, actress and screenwriter, as well as European documentary.

The selected films will also compete for the Excellence Awards in the categories of European cinematography, editing, production design, costume design, makeup and hairdressing, original score, sound and visual effects.
