Fine of 152,000 euros to the Waka nightclub and three subcontracted companies

The Catalan Labor Inspectorate (ITC) has proposed sanctioning the well-known Waka Sabadell nightclub and three subcontracted companies in the private security and access control sector for failing to comply with labor regulations. The total fine amounts to 152,000 euros, of which about 54,000 euros correspond to Emergen Disc, commercially known as Waka.

The body, dependent on the Generalitat, accuses the nightlife venue of not having at least five workers registered with Social Security. In addition, it maintains that Waka has failed to comply with other aspects of labor regulations, specifically, those related to registration of working hours, child labor and occupational risk prevention.

However, the highest penalty - 91,154 euros - has been imposed on the company Distribuciones Coralsa, in charge of the access control service to the disco. In this case, the inspection has communicated its actions to the Prosecutor's Office since on the day the inspection was carried out, on July 30, it was found that the majority of the employees of the security company -3 of a total of 16- worked without being registered with Social Security, which "would constitute an alleged crime against the rights of working people," argues the agency.

The other two subcontracted companies that have been sanctioned, with around 3,500 euros each, are Not Over Yet, which provided access and auxiliary services to Waka, and the company Bull Seguridad, which provided surveillance and protection services. The four sanctioned companies can still appeal the fine before the Department of Business and Employment.

Waka Sabadell has attracted the media spotlight in recent years for being the scene of various violent episodes, such as fights, assaults and rapes, which has led the Sant Quirze City Council to request the closure of the premises on more than one occasion.
