FIFA opens a file on Serbia for hanging a flag against Kosovo in the locker room

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened a file against the Serbian Association for displaying a flag in its locker room on the occasion of the match against Brazil, on the first day of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The procedure, as reported by FIFA, is opened according to article 11 of the Disciplinary Code of the highest world body and according to article 4 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup Regulations.

As could be seen through social networks, a flag of the Balkan country was hung in the dressing room of the Serbian team with the map of Kosovo and the expression 'No surrender' (do not surrender).

The file comes after the complaint by the Kosovo Football Federation, which in a statement stated that "the Kosovo Football Federation (...) has filed a complaint with FIFA for the aggressive action of the selection of Serbia, which continued in the match against Brazil (...) with the chauvinistic rhetoric towards Kosovo", they criticize.

The Kosovar federation called for "sanctioning measures" against the Balkan team and all those measures that "incite hatred between peoples and violate human values."

"While Europe and the world face a major crisis as a result of Russia's unprovoked aggression in Ukraine, a major competition like the World Cup should be a venue where calls for peace prevail, not to incite hatred between peoples. ", they have said from Pristina.

This week Serbia and Kosovo signed an agreement, sponsored by the European Union, to resolve the crisis opened by the controversial rule to impose Kosovar license plates on Serb communities.
