Felipe VI supports the emergency tasks in Las Hurdes and stands in solidarity with those affected

King Felipe VI today expressed his support for the emergency services that have worked to deal with the fire in the Extremaduran region of Las Hurdes and has shown solidarity on the ground with some of those affected who have had to be evacuated or who see harmed their businesses.

Felipe VI has traveled by helicopter from Badajoz to Las Hurdes after doing, together with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the inaugural Cáceres-Mérida-Badajoz route of the high-performance train that is considered the first step for high-speed rail in Extremadura .

The King has traveled to two points in Las Hurdes: the Advanced Command Center for the coordination of fire extinction tasks, located in the town of Vegas de Coria, Cáceres, and a meeting in Azabal with those affected by fire in their homes and businesses.

Accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, in Vegas de Coria he has been received with applause and shouts of "Long live the King" from residents of the area and has greeted the mayors of various municipalities who have welcomed him, specifically the of Pinofranqueado, Ladrillar, Nuñomoral and Casares de las Hurdes.

With them, he was able to comment on the situation caused by the fire before analyzing its evolution with the representatives of the various emergency services in a 112 truck set up as an advanced command center.

This Monday the fire in Las Hurdes has been considered stabilized just like the one that has also affected Casas de Miravete in Extremadura and part of the Monfragüe National Park. A third fire in this community, the Valle del Jerte, is still active.

Subsequently, Felipe VI has accessed the interior of another compartment of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) in which he has been informed of the evolution of all the fires in the Extremaduran community.

With new applause and cheers the King has been fired, who has come to greet several dozen neighbors and has received the gift of a drawing of the monarch made by a girl.

From Vegas de Coria, Felipe VI has traveled to the town of Azabal, where he has had a meeting with fifteen elderly people who had been evicted from their homes preventively due to the threat of fire.

He has transferred his solidarity to them, as he has done later in another meeting with representative people of the socioeconomic fabric of the region.

Specifically, the meeting was attended by a person in charge of the network of inns in the area, owners of rural houses and apartments, owners of a restaurant and a beekeeper, an activity that has been greatly affected by the fire.

Some of these people have already met with the King and Queen during the visit that Felipe VI and Doña Letiza made to Las Hurdes on May 12 and have been able to convey to the King the effects of the fire on their expectations of development in the region.

The trip of the Kings to Las Hurdes two months ago commemorated the one that Alfonso XIII starred in a hundred years ago to an area then marked by misery and the lack of the most basic services.
