Felipe VI congratulates Carlos III and hopes to strengthen the bilateral relationship

Felipe VI congratulated Carlos III this Saturday after his proclamation as King of the United Kingdom and wished him a "fruitful and prosperous" reign that contributes to the well-being of the British people and "to the strengthening of the already close relations" between the two countries.

In a message in English made public by the Casa del Rey shortly after the official proclamation ceremony, Felipe VI addresses "His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom, of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" and begins with a "dear Carlos ".

He conveys his most sincere congratulations and best wishes on his behalf, on behalf of the Government and on that of the Spanish people, on a day that he describes as "historic" and "with the vivid memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her beloved mother, still in our hearts and minds.

"Queen Letizia and I wish to send Her Majesty and the Queen Consort our personal affection and the guarantee of our deep friendship," the message concludes.

The king and queen visited the residence of the United Kingdom ambassador in Spain yesterday to sign the book of condolences open to the public in Madrid after the death of Elizabeth II.
