Feijóo puts Bendodo at the head of the campaign, who achieved an absolute majority in Andalusia

On May 28, municipal and regional elections are held in most communities, but Alberto Núñez Feijóo knows that they are also his primaries. The chances that the president of the PP has of seeing his dreams of being president come true will depend a lot on the result of these elections. Feijóo wants to put his party into electoral mode as soon as possible, and without waiting for the Christmas holidays to end, he has started the electoral machinery.

For this, the popular leader has a reference, Juanma Moreno and the absolute majority that he achieved last year in Andalusia. And what better, to follow in his wake, than to appoint campaign director who achieved with Moreno the result that has allowed him to govern alone, after in 2018 he also achieved the victory of the PP that led him to govern for the first time after more 30 years of socialist governments.

Feijóo yesterday entrusted Elías Bendodo, general coordinator of the PP, who rose to the national leadership of the PP from his position as vice president of the Junta de Andalucía, to be the campaign manager for the municipal and regional elections on May 28, since he will be ratified soon in a party management committee, which will commission him to immediately prepare the campaign, since throughout the month of January Feijóo intends to make the presentation of the regional candidates and the heads of the list of the capitals of province.

The assignment for the team that Bendodo will lead is "to show that there is a Pedro Sánchez in each electoral poster of the 12 autonomous regions and of the two autonomous cities that will have to submit to the verdict of the polls in mid-2023", as well as in each one of the socialist candidates in the more than 8,000 municipalities of Spain".

And it is that although each territory and each city will carry out a campaign focused on the specific problems of each area, the president of the PP wants to take advantage of the campaign of the local and regional elections to warm up what will be the general elections at the end of the year "if they can be better for the Spanish before the end of the year," said Elías Bendodo at a press conference in Malaga on Wednesday.

The abolition of the crime of sedition, the controversy created with the Law of yes is yes; the "intervention of the institutions" by Pedro Sánchez, who is, according to Bendodo, "sick of power", inflation and the measures "that fall short" to lower the shopping basket, will be, for the moment, the center of what will be the campaign of the PP, said the general coordinator of the party, as it has been "in reason and conversations at meals and at home parties throughout Spain." It is about reminding the Spaniards of everything that Sánchez has done in these years and that the Government intends "for the Spaniards to forget".

All with the same objective, to prepare the ground for when Pedro Sánchez calls the general elections. For this, the national structure of the PP will be at the disposal of the territories, "in search of achieving the best results to increase the municipal, provincial and regional presence of the PP, and also to recover the condition of first political force in elections of character national".

For Bendodo, his appointment supposes "a way of understanding the electoral campaign", and for this reason he will repeat what was the spirit of the Andalusian campaign of 2018 that gave rise to "change in Andalusia", since what is intended in Spain, in the end, "it is to achieve a change". It is a question, he said, "of repeating that model, and of extending the success of Andalusia to the rest of Spain", because "in Andalusia the great change began and we trust that a change will take place in Spain".

The axes of his campaign will be, he stressed, "with intelligence, humility, a lot of work and choosing the best candidates so that in all parts of Spain there are opportunities to win." Bendodo considers that "the party is more than prepared to face the elections in Spain and the Spanish always knock on the doors of the PP in the worst moments in the country", and the PP considers that Spain is currently going through one of those moments.
