“Better as soon as possible.” It was the reaction of Alberto Núñez Feijóo to the call for elections for July 23 announced this Monday by Pedro Sánchez. Whether or not the date is convenient for him, the president of the PP does not comment, although he recalled that he himself had asked him to join the general elections to the municipal and regional elections yesterday, so as not to have two electoral calls in 54 days.

What Alberto Núñez Feijóo did do is give all the signs that the PP is ready. It was he himself who appeared before the media, when it was expected to be tomorrow, in an intervention before the national board of directors. But in a few hours, even the poster that appears in the image offered by television of the press room has changed, and where the electoral slogan “Entre todos” was, today you could see what will be the leitmotif of the PP “A Spain prepared “. Feijóo is in election mode to such an extent that he has already requested majority support to obtain a “resounding majority”, and an alarm signal, despite the good results yesterday, “the change of cycle will not end until July 23” .

With the flags of Spain and Europe, the president of the PP wanted, however, to vindicate those results obtained in the elections on Sunday, because the call for elections cannot hide what happened yesterday, which was, in his opinion, “the Spanish they want a very forceful message of change of course” and he dedicated himself to congratulating his colleagues: “Announcing immediate elections does not hide what happened yesterday. They have said enough, we have come this far.”

For the popular leader, “he has gained another way of doing politics in substance and forms.” But he warns citizens that the effort does not end with the victory of May 28. “Sanchismo has not yet been repealed”, but elections have been called for within 54 days and citizens must express clearly which path they want to take”. The options are clear, and continue another four years with a Government of Sánchez, United We can and Bildu”, or the alternative offered by the PP. That is why he calls for “from today, a clear, incontestable and forceful majority to start a new direction.” It is, he said, “to stay the same” and “leave behind five years to forget” because of the “damaging consequences that are visible to all.” That is why he asks that “it be answered at the polls” clearly “.

But the announcement of the President of the Government is not going to make Feijóo go to renounce his victory on Sunday: Although I know that the President of the Government wants them to go unnoticed, I don’t. “It will be part of the offer he makes to the Spanish. “The PP has won in the nation as a whole, in 9 autonomous communities, it has surpassed the PSOE in 31 provinces and as many other capitals, and government alternatives have been opened throughout the territory, and where not, “it has been for a handful of votes”.

In conclusion, yesterday’s elections “have been the most powerful and clean expression of the great desire for change that exists in Spanish society” and that is why the PP faces the electoral call “with its best version”, the one that has been seen in the Sunday’s results “united, serene, and committed to our country.”

What he offers is that Spain does not waste another minute, and if it wants to have in the PP “a prepared government, an opportunity in the name of moderation and institutional respect”, because with this “I make the majority desire for change my own”. .

After the statement, Feijóo answered four questions, all of them about the possible pacts of the PP in communities and town halls, with Vox, and if this possibility could harm the popular in the general elections. The president of the PP did not advance anything, he spoke this morning with Abascal, but to congratulate himself on the results, he is the only one who has done so. Sánchez did not call him. He has done it with Emiliano García Page, who has won in Castilla-La Mancha, and hopes to do it with Adrián Barbón, president of the Principality of Asturias.

Regarding the possibility of agreements, he stressed that there will be no global negotiation, and what has to be done is left to each territory. Although Feijóo does not talk about whether it will harm the PP if it is agreed while there is a campaign, from the leadership of the PP he stressed that the PSOE will also have to make pacts with Bildu in that space of time, for example to obtain the government of Navarra.

The message from the president of the PP is that he maintains his proposal to the PSOE to allow the list with the most votes to govern, as he said in the campaign, and that if the PSOE wants it, it is willing to talk about it.
