Feijóo, at the Swedish embassy while the motion of no confidence is being debated

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has held a meeting with ambassadors of the European Union (EU) at the Swedish embassy, while the debate on Vox's motion of no confidence against the Government of Pedro Sánchez began in Congress, from which the popular have distanced themselves.

The meeting between Feijóo and the European ambassadors has lasted for about an hour and a half while the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, and the President of the Government, who have agreed to criticize the abstention of the PP in this motion, debated in the chamber.

After criticizing the position of the PP, Abascal has offered those of Feijóo to make a "clean slate" and vote together on the motion to understand each other later and form an alternative, while Sánchez has warned the PP that Abascal will collect the "payment in deferred" of the abstention of the popular.

While this debate was taking place in the chamber, Feijóo was speaking in the meeting with ambassadors, held behind closed doors and which was not included in the official forecasts of the formation. The leader of the PP has not gone to Congress, despite being able to do so because of his status as a senator and has not attended to journalists.

Nor will he attend the media tomorrow, when he will travel to Brussels to participate on Thursday in the traditional meeting that the PPE holds before the European Council.

After the meeting at the Swedish embassy, the PP has sent images to the media and a press release in which it explains that Feijóo has spoken with the ambassadors of European funds, fiscal rules, the economic situation or pensions and has committed to have a unique position in his government on the war in Ukraine and has accused a faction of the current government of supporting Putin.

Cuca Gamarra, number two of the PP and spokesperson in Congress, will be in charge of giving the PP's reply to the independent candidate of the motion, Ramón Tamames, and also of assessing what happened in the debate.

As reported by the PP, the meeting was held at the residence of the Swedish ambassador, Teppo Taurianen, whose country currently holds the rotating Presidency of the European Union and, during it, the opposition leader conveyed to the attendees the position of the party on key issues such as the management of European funds or fiscal rules.

Feijóo guaranteed the ambassadors that "if he governs, his Executive's position on the war in Ukraine will be unique and will put an end to the problem caused by a faction of the government supporting Putin."

Similarly, as explained by the PP, there was "a long debate on the economic and financial situation of our country, and on the pension reform and its necessary sustainability."

In the PP they already made it clear that Feijóo would not attend to see from the Congress of Deputies the development of this motion with which Vox proposes Professor Ramón Tamames as a candidate for the Presidency of the Government.

The main opposition party, which will abstain, has already been the focus of criticism from both Abascal and Sánchez in the first part of the debate. From Genoa they assumed that the criticism would focus on Feijóo, thus confirming that he "is the adversary of both" and giving him the greatest role without even being present.

"Vox wants to take center stage because its focus was shifted and the government is interested in trying to sell a heroic victory," say management sources. From Genoa they reaffirm the abstention set by Feijóo from the outset and ensure that this position implies "not voting with either Abascal or Sánchez."

"There are reasons to change the government, but this is not the way to do it," they summarize from the main opposition party, and stress that "elections can be won, while the motion cannot."
