Farewell to the arms of the 'polimilis'

With Franco still alive, ETA's ideological contradictions had led to a sharp division between the "military" and "political-military" ETA. The components of the latter, who were also the main victims of the success of the infiltrated agent El Lobo in discovering his leadership, decided to practice a double track. As the first part of their name indicated, they ran for the 1977 elections within the Euzkadiko Ezkerra coalition.

Increasingly integrated into the political game that democracy allowed, ETA (pm) was dissolved in 1982, as a result of a process of dialogue with the UCD government in which the Basque politicians Mario Onaindia and Juan Mari Bandrés played an essential role. They showed many of their own supporters that guns were no longer necessary.
