The Firefighters have stabilized the forest fire near the Gi-543 highway in Arbúcies (La Selva) that started at 2:08 p.m. this Friday. At four in the afternoon, the emergency teams had allocated 38 crews to fight the fire, eleven of them airborne (four planes, three bomber helicopters and one command helicopter).
The fire has caused the confinement of the Valle de Vidal campsite and thirteen farmhouses in the area. At the same time, the Local Police have preventively evicted some eighty people from the urbanizations of La Joia and Palau.
The Fire Departments have worked in a perimeter of about five hectares. As they had commented in a statement, the fire was not advancing pushed by the wind, but by the orography of the land. The head of the fire had crested a small hill and the priority of the extinction forces was to attack the right flank so that it did not get stuck in a ravine. The fire was launching some "insignificant" secondary sources and the troops were checking the perimeter to rule out new ignitions.
Around 4:00 p.m., the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) has cut traffic on the GI-543 road in both directions between kilometer points 1 and 11.5. The 112 emergency telephone number has received a hundred calls for this fire.
