There are only a few hours left for readers to find out what the next Planeta award will be and, also, its finalist. As happens every year, there is a lot of expectation for the event, which will be held this Saturday in Barcelona.
In this 71st edition, moreover, the participation record has been broken, with a total of 846 original works from all over the world submitted to the competition. The origin of the novels received this year is very diverse: in addition to Spain, with 405 works, South America stands out with 224, North America with 82, Central America with 35, the rest of Europe with 23 and Asia with 4. As happens every year, the award ceremony is held on October 15. The meeting will be at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), in Barcelona, where personalities from Spanish culture will meet to meet the winner.
It is a literary contest open to all the public of legal age. The legal bases of the award are published every year on the Planeta website and it is important to follow them to the letter in order to enter the competition and meet all the requirements, such as the length of the work, and they are available for consultation. It is important that the manuscript is original and unpublished in the Spanish language.
Since its 70th edition, moreover, the Planeta Prize has been the one with the largest financial endowment in the world, surpassing the Nobel Prize: the winning novel is awarded €1,000,000, the finalist novel €200,000.
This is one of the most repeated questions, since the gala is not open to the public and there are many who want to know its winners. Aware of this, the publisher has prepared a streaming to be able to follow minute by minute. The ruling will be announced this Saturday the 15th at 11:30 p.m.
There are several people in charge of evaluating the merits of the works delivered in this edition. The members this 2022 will be the following: José Manuel Blecua Perdices, Fernando Delgado, Juan Eslava Galán, Pere Gimferrer, Carmen Posadas, Rosa Regà and Belén López, as secretary with vote.
At the moment, only that there are ten and their provisional titles. However, their authorship is unknown, since they all have a pseudonym. They are the following: Unburied Corpses, by Escolarca de Clazómenes (pseudonym); Barefoot I go with you, by Antimio Cruz Bustamante; City of Fire, by Sergio López (pseudonym); The flame of the past, by Aurelio González González; and Barbarie, from El Arlequinado (pseudonym).
Completing the list of finalists are Oliva's tunnel, by Jorge Sánchez López; The Journey, by Camilla Seymour (pseudonym); The song of the rook, by Fermina Cobos (pseudonym); Children of Wrath by Yuri Zhivago (pseudonym) and Wherever Memory Takes Us by Elahanleys (pseudonym).
