Eugenia Silva, a model against the world

Robin S. Sharma said that the secret to happiness is simple and that it only consists of finding out what it is that you like to do and directing all your energies in that direction. A quote from one of those books that Eugenia Silva (Madrid, 1976) devours, one of the most revered Spanish models in the industry who continues to succeed and fight incessantly for her dreams. For this woman from Madrid with roots in Extremadura, her maturity has shown her that age is just a number and that hard work is the best travel companion. “I am having more contracts than ever. Incredible projects with brands that I have been collaborating with for a long time, such as Rabat, and even with others that I worked with twenty years ago and have resumed contact with me”. And she adds between laughs: "I don't know if it's because mature women are more fashionable."

Age acceptance has always been a taboo subject among models and celebrities. The tyrannical beauty canons seem to tell women that they must be beautiful and young forever. In this field, Eugenia Silva feels that her generation is moving towards normalization and a healthier life. “I perceive the most relaxed and self-confident women on red carpets. You have to learn to take care of yourself, body and mind. I had never been to the gym, not even during the years I worked for Victoria's Secret. I didn't take care of myself at all and now I have learned to live in a healthier and more conscious way. That is the secret of my happiness, the continuous search for balance”. Silva, in addition to being a model, graduated in Law, a path that she took with uncertainty but which ended up becoming one of her best decisions. “I never thought that the legal profession would be so useful to me. I have not practiced professionally, but she has helped me a lot throughout my life ”. She actively collaborates with the Fundación Plan Internacional España to help children in vulnerable situations and defends the cause of women on a daily basis. "I would be nothing without my women, all those who are part of my life." She shares the name Eugenia with her mother and her grandmother, two muses who have taught her to face the ravages of life.

The woman from Madrid remembers her career in the fashion industry as a very calm journey. Unlike other colleagues who have been sexually assaulted or harassed by photographers or businessmen in the sector, Silva denies having felt violated. “I have never been objectified. I knew what I did, where she was, and that they loved me for my face and body. No one fooled me."

Her time as a Victoria's Secret Angel was one of the great milestones of her career. “Now I don't know if it would be a peak moment or a decline, some perceive it as denigrating, but at that time, yes, it was being at the top. I have wonderful memories of those shows and, despite the high level of competition, great friendships.” Now those anonymous models that he had as companions have been replaced by fashion influencers from Instagram and TikTok. “I think there is room for everyone, also for the anonymous. I honestly prefer to travel the world six times in a week than spend all day talking to a mobile ”, she jokes.

Personally, Silva affirms that getting married and starting a family was never a priority in his life. “Motherhood changes everything. The fears become others and everything is relativized ”. His family circle is made up of his two children and his partner, Alfonso de Borbón Yordi, with whom wedding bells do not ring. “We are so good like this. I am not superstitious, because I was born on Tuesday the 13th, but why change what is already good? And that is how Eugenia Silva built the story of her story, one that bears the name of her great women and as a prologue a song to freedom.
