Esther Cañadas opens up like never before about the ordeal of her illness: "All the capillaries in my body burst at the same time"

There is no doubt that Esther Cañadas is one of the greatest talents that Spain has given to the world of international fashion. The mannequin, she rose to fame in the mid-90s thanks to her personality and her enviable physique, making her over the years not only the favorite of designers such as Carolina Herrera, Versace or Armani; but also one of the most professional and respected women in the world of fashion.

Esther Cañadas returns to the catwalks after years away due to a serious health setback that almost ended her life. The woman from Albacete, the last guest on Alone with Vicky Martín Berrocal, has revealed until now unknown details of everything she had to suffer due to an autoimmune disease since she received the diagnosis, more than a decade ago.

Esther Cañadas was diagnosed with vasculitis, a disease whose main characteristic is inflammation of the blood vessels (arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins). As a result of this inflammation, there can even be a complete interruption of blood flow.

Among other symptoms, the model had to combat periods of high fever, fatigue, serious weight loss and the risk of suffering a visceral heart attack due to occlusion of her blood vessels. The model suffered a lot, because her illness caused "all her capillaries to explode at the same time."

"I went through all the stages. It was almost six years. Do you know what you do in a life in six years? I have gone through stages of thinking that I had missed six years of my life, but it wasn't like that, because I was fighting for leaving a place that was very difficult," explained the model, very sincere.

The model acknowledges that this disease could have ended her life, stating that she had "two or three moments of saying 'this day, here you stay.'" During the years that he has been fighting against it and its effects - the model retired to live in Mexico, in her country, to recover alone - it has made him see her life in a completely different way.

After several attempts to combine his critical health condition with his career, he realized that it was impossible. Therefore, the time came when the model decided to completely stop her busy professional life to focus on her recovery. "She had a prescription for absolute rest for life," Cañadas reveals for the first time, explaining that she reached a point where she only had 10% of body energy.

Luckily, the model was able to recover and heal her illness. This turning point in her life was rewarded with one of the most special, right after: the arrival of her daughter Galia Santina, born in 2014. The model has lived the following years dedicated to motherhood and caring for her little girl, who is already eight years old.

Now that Galia is a little older, the model has resumed her modeling career. In 2022, she returned to the catwalks. "I feel that I owe this return to my daughter," she stated in an interview with Telva magazine a few months ago.

The model is delighted with her return, and claims to continue "feeling the love of the wonderful people of fashion" and of very important brands that continue to ask her how she is. "That feels very nice," she says.
