Espanyol loses almost 1,500 subscribers during the pandemic

Espanyol has lost more than 2,500 members in a year and since the pandemic it has almost 1,500 fewer subscribers. The figures are not good, but from the club they are relativized by the impact of the health emergency experienced in Spain two years ago. All in all, the number of season ticket holders remains the same as the year prior to relegation to the second division and the average attendance has grown this year, surely attracted by the hiring of Diego Martínez.

The blue and white club today presented the figures for its latest season of members and season ticket holders, the latter having the right to a seat in the stadium, amounting to 27,311 and 21,681 people, respectively. This implies that the Catalan entity has lost a total of 2,694 members compared to the previous year, while the number of subscribers has decreased by 1,447 people since the start of the pandemic (2019-20).

The club, however, asks for caution when analyzing these numbers, since the 2021-22 card was free because public access was not allowed during the pandemic, which marked the 2020-21 season.

The deputy director general of the club, Toni Alegre, was "grateful" to the members and stated that, despite the setback, he is relatively satisfied with the figures: "Our data is similar to that of the 2019-2020 season in which we we qualified for the Europa League. The trend is stable", he explained.

In any case, Alegre insisted that the entity is not satisfied and is pursuing an improvement in the figures in the future. On the positive side, attendance at the stadium is being higher, on average, than in previous seasons and he hopes to maintain this evolution.

Despite everything, the numbers in the first "one hundred percent normal" campaign, as the deputy general manager pointed out, invite optimism in the offices of the RCDE Stadium. The strategy is to put "the member in the center" by increasing attention and services to recover those who have decided to end their relationship with the club.
