Espanyol and the syndrome of the first half

For some time now, Espanyol is a club in which all too easily a concern is susceptible to becoming dynamic and this into an obsession. The environment has an enormous capacity to transform a simple toothache into a terminal illness. And so, a problem is sometimes magnified to generate a level of suggestion that can dangerously infect the team. The entity, aware that this negativity was an important factor in the year of relegation, has tried to eradicate it by hiring Diego Martínez. A successful coach, with a positive speech, to convince from the inside out. A motivator who changed the step after the sober stage of Vicente Moreno.

The penultimate obsession that the entity experienced in the sports field was its inability to win when it played away from home last season. He succeeded Moreno in office and in the end it turned out to be one more of the arguments for his non-continuance. Espanyol won one away game in the entire season. Against Valencia, on New Year's Eve and thanks to the performance of a youth player who never played a full game.

Diego Martínez eradicated this obsession and Espanyol became a competitive team in all fields. Of course, the goalkeepers began to give problems with absurd errors and the psychosis was total. The club had to hire a new goalkeeper. Someone later realized that the team did not win if Sergi Gómez was on the field, and the center-back then became a scapegoat. With that problem fixed, Sergi Goméz is now the undisputed starter.

The coach has not had it easy, as the squad was halfway built in the summer. Many of the team's poor results were excused for that reason. But a new concern has become dynamic and is now susceptible to becoming an obsession. Espanyol is the worst team in the League in the early stages. Only once, against Betis, did he reach the break ahead on the scoreboard.

It's not that Martínez's team starts losing every game, it's that at half-time it's almost impossible for them to have a positive result. In 24 games, only once has he been winning at halftime and in twelve he has tied. It is the worst team in the League, with only 15 points, even worse than Elche. This unfortunate statistic has been generated from the confidence that the coach himself has been losing in the team, increasingly prudent at the beginning of the games. His work is the only remedy so that the obsession does not end in syndrome.
