ERC considers the tax on large assets studied by the Government to be "interesting"

ERC has been asking for anti-dumping mechanisms for a long time. He agreed with the PSOE to approve the 2021 budgets, with the creation of a working group that had to define a new tax on large fortunes and determine the necessary modifications to end fiscal dumping. But since then the government has not moved. Only now does he seem willing, two years later and after the abolition of the Wealth Tax in Andalusia, to find a formula to tax large fortunes from January 1. Esquerra has agreed as long as it does not erode the Generalitat's collection capacity through the Catalan Patrimony tax itself and that of unproductive assets.

"We think it's an interesting tax", Lluís Salvadó, economic spokesman for the Republicans, highlighted this afternoon at a press conference, together with the deputy general secretary of the Left, Marta Vilalta. The Republican, however, clarified that in principle the ERC agreed to approve the Government's measure as long as there is "no jurisdictional invasion of the scarce regulatory capacities" that Catalonia has in fiscal matters.

Salvadó also wanted to denounce the unfair tax competition that he believes is taking place against Catalonia from Madrid and Andalusia. "What is being done in short is a call for relocations, which are legal but often also fictitious", he has judged while considering it necessary that it is an obligation to pursue them both from the regional and state tax administrations.

The ERC deputy has in turn announced three measures that his group intends to take to the general policy debate that will be held in Parliament next week. The first will be a proposal that will deal with the defense of the Catalan fiscal model "progressive and with a high redistributive capacity" and that he hopes will obtain the support of the majority of the Catalan Chamber. Secondly, Salvadó has assured that Esquerra will declare the will to advance towards full management and collection capacity in tax matters, for which they will demand from the Government of Pedro Sánchez the management and collection of 100% by the Tax Agency of Catalonia income tax, one of the big taxes.

Lastly, Salvadó stressed that, like the Basque Country, ERC will request that the proceeds derived from the taxes on large electricity companies and banks go to the coffers of the autonomous communities. “The philosophy that the European Union is also defending is that those benefits that fell from the sky as a result of the crisis derived from the war serve to accompany those families that suffer the consequences of the growth of inflation or energy prices”, the Republican reasoned.
