Energy companies charge up to 291% more for gas in the free market than the regulated rate

No doubt. In the case of domestic gas contracts, the best option for consumers is to choose the Last Resort Regulated Rate (TUR), published by the Government in the BOE. Something similar to the PVPC electricity rate.

This was stated this Thursday by the user organization Facua after a market study in which it has found that the price of a KWh of natural gas on the market is between 95% and 291% more expensive in the free market than in the regulated.

"Iberdrola is by far the most expensive company in the market, in second place but very far from the first would be Repsol", explained this Thursday at a press conference Rubén Sánchez, spokesman for Facua.

The study by the consumer organization has analyzed the offers from Endesa, Naturgy, Iberdrola, Repsol, CHC Energía and TotalEnergies, in force on August 8, and compares them with the Last Resort Rates (TUR) in force since July 1.

Three different rates are offered for natural gas, depending on whether the user consumes less than 5,000 kWh per year, between that amount and 15,000 kWh or more. Facua has made the comparison taking the first two profiles as a reference, starting from a user who consumes 400 kWh or 800 kWh per month.

Facua explains that with the TUR a user who consumes 400 kWh per month currently pays 35.92 euros per month. In the free gas market, your bill can skyrocket to a range of 121.65-85.41 euros, depending on the company.

For a user profile with a consumption of 800 kWh per month, with the corresponding TUR -which applies to consumption between 5,000 and 15,000 kWh per year- pays a bill of 67.76 euros per month. In the free market, you can pay up to 251.10 euros.

"All the offers analyzed in the free market are much more expensive than the regulated rate," warned Facua, who also warns users who switch to the free market that in order to return to the TUR regulated rates they only have to Contact any of the so-called reference marketers, which belong to business groups that also have free market marketers.

With regard to fixed rates, with the TUR rate for consumption less than 5,000 kWh per year, it is 6.58 euros per month, while for those above and up to 15,000 kWh it rises to 12.39 euros per month .
