Eleven pro-independence personalities demand an international investigation into espionage

Eleven Catalan personalities, including the former president of the Generalitat de Catalunya Quim Torra, demand that parliamentarians promote an "international investigation" commission on espionage against independentistas. Through a manifesto, the signatories linked to politics, activism or the media, request that this be undertaken "by way of urgency" and that any negotiations with the Spanish Government be suspended until the results are known.

The promoters of the text criticize the "helplessness" and the lack of "protection" of Catalan citizens before the Spanish justice for espionage that they consider "indiscriminate and not justified in legal parameters". The signatories point out that this is the "most serious case of espionage in Western Europe against peaceful citizens." The writing revolves around the Citizen Lab report on Catalan Gate, but also refers to Operation Catalunya and other court cases.

For all this, they summon the Parliament to promote an "independent international investigation" with which the facts can be "clarified" and show the "legal violations committed". At the same time, they ask for a coordination of those affected with entities specialized in Human Rights and that their defense be financed by the Catalan institutions. Until there are results of the investigation, they urge political parties to freeze relations with the Spanish executive.

The personalities also demand that the Catalan political formations shy away from their "disputes" and "games of interest" and that they join forces in the face of a situation that they describe as a "regression of rights and democratic quality". They also ask parliamentarians "determination and speed" in their actions and park the "excuses."

The former president of the Generalitat Quim Torra is the most visible face of the group of signatories. The text is also signed by the ex-vice president of the Parliament Josep Costa, the ex-deputies Lluís Llach, Albano-Dante Fachín, Àngels Martínez-Castells, Antonio Baños and Marta Sibina, the ex-president of the ANC Elisenda Paluzie, the linguist Blanca Serra, the journalist Vicent Partal and the sociologist Salvador Cardús.
