Education once again convenes a macro opposition to meet the limit of interims

The Department of Education must limit the temporary employment of teachers to a maximum of 8% at the end of 2024, the date and limit set by the European Commission for all public administrations. To do this, Educació drew up a plan that contemplated the assignment of fixed places based on merit (without a prior exam), through an extraordinary stabilization process (carried out last summer) and ordinary places.

In this plan, completed in 2022, the last exams were to be held in the first half of 2024. For this call it was planned to call 2,174 places. A series of unexpected circumstances have thwarted the plan and the department has been forced to quadruple this figure.

Yesterday, it called a competition for 9,363 places, about 7,000 more, which will begin in April and will end in December, when the new officials finish their internships in their destination educational centers.

The expansion has been due to three factors: an increase in staff, a larger-than-expected retirement and a lower-than-expected passing of the tests in the stabilization process.

On the one hand, in January 2023, some 3,500 more teachers who were not initially contemplated began working. This increase was due to the reduction in teaching hours for teachers agreed between Educació and the unions to stop the conflict caused by the advancement of the school calendar in September.

According to department sources, the rest of the increase in places is due to improvements in the staff for this course (estimated at one thousand) and the replacement of personnel due to retirements. For this reason, around 2,700 places are allocated in total.

Finally, another reason is the non-filling of places in the last stabilization call in which nearly 800 were vacant, despite the fact that 26,500 candidates applied for 14,238 places.

In total, between 2022 and 2023, 36,460 places have been announced.

The places announced for the month of April are distributed as 2,131 for teachers, 6,947 for secondary school teachers, 55 for official language schools, 75 for teachers of plastic arts and design, 9 are for workshop teachers of plastic arts and design and another 146 are for specialists in vocational training sectors.

By specialties, the largest number of places announced in ESO are for mathematics (720), English (627), Catalan (555) and Spanish (399), and with the intention of reinforcing orientation, 519 places are called and another 509 for specialists in technology.
