Easyjet pilots call nine days of strike in August

The Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (Sepla) at Easyjet has called a nine-day strike for August "due to the company's refusal to recover the conditions that the pilots had before the pandemic" and for its refusal to negotiate a new agreement collective, as explained in a note from the union.

This Thursday the cabin crew of the airline called off their protest after reaching an agreement for a salary increase of 22% in three years. The pilots' strikes will take place in batches of 3 days throughout the month, key in the summer holidays. They will be on August 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 29.

"This is the last possible resource, as all the attempts made by the pilots' representatives to reach an agreement have failed," it is argued. According to Sepla, in the last meeting held, a week ago, "the company did not present any improvement to its proposal" after six months of negotiations and six meetings with three union proposals rejected.

With the pandemic, the company modified the conditions of the workers, with the "threat of a possible loss of jobs." The pilots accepted "job resignations to keep their jobs and guarantee the very survival of the company in Spain."

In addition, it is denounced that the conditions of the Spanish pilots "have always been worse than those of the rest of the bases in Europe", which now "are even more degraded with the new proposal of the company".
