The mayors of Don Benito and Villanueva de la Serena, José Luis Quintana and Miguel Ángel Gallardo, announced this Thursday that they are ruling out the proposed names for the city that emerges from the merger of both municipalities, Concordia del Guadiana or Mestas del Guadiana, before " generalized rejection" of them among the population.
"We cannot turn a deaf ear to a reality that is on the street. Neither in Don Benito nor in Villanueva de la Serena have both names been understood," Gallardo said at a press conference.
Almost 48 hours after the commission of experts created expressly to deal with the possible names announced their two proposals, Concordia del Guadiana or Mestas del Guadiana, both mayors have chosen to renounce both names.
Quintana and Gallardo have announced that the boards of spokespersons of both consistories will meet soon - the date is yet to be decided - to address a new procedure for choosing names.
