Discomfort in the judiciary for the Government's management in the 12-O parade

The Hispanic Day parade on October 12 has been somewhat overshadowed by the absence of some members of the judiciary. The main absence was that of the president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and the Supreme Court, Carlos Lesmes, due to his recent resignation and whose resignation has just been published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). However, the conservative bloc of the body of judges has not been upset by the way the invitation is communicated.

According to various sources, it was not until yesterday, Tuesday, when the Executive, through the Ministry of Defense, sent the invitation to the members to come as a representative of the judiciary. However, from Moncloa they assure that the invitations were issued last Friday. The transfer and bureaucracy meant that they did not reach the hands of their recipients until Tuesday morning.

While government sources believe that the absence is due to an attempted boycott by the conservative bloc, sources from the Council believe that there is an interest of the Government for them not to attend and that is why the invitation and prior call from Lesmes did not arrive until yesterday to find out what had happened.

For this reason, some members of the organ, from the conservative bloc, decided to sit down and not show up. The same did not happen at the reception at the Royal Palace, whose invitation arrived days ago in a timely manner, and which was attended by more than half of the members.

These sources acknowledge that not going to the reception would be rude to the kings, an extreme that they do not intend.

This absence has not been total because progressive members have attended, such as Rafael Mozo, the oldest member and who will preside over the Council in the absence of Lesmes, and who was on the platform together with the regional presidents. It has also been possible to see other authorities such as the president of the Constitutional Court, Pedro González-Trevijano.

The Government maintains that the delay in the invitations was due to a mistake that was corrected. However, some magistrates of the Supreme Court assure that yesterday they had not yet received the notification, so they have not been able to attend. The invitations to the presidents of the superior courts of justice would not have arrived either, unlike other years that they were notified in a timely manner.

Failure or intentional, this situation has further damaged the image of confrontation that exists between the judiciary and the Executive due to the existing blockade in the renewal of the body of judges, which has forced Lesmes to resign this Monday.
