Digital artwork of Cruyff's legendary goal up for auction at Sotheby's

FC Barcelona has entered the NFT (non-fungible token, in blockchain technology) era with the production of its first digital work of art: In a way, immortal. It is an audiovisual work that aesthetically recreates the legendary goal of 1973 with which Johan Cruyff became known as the Flying Dutchman.

As explained by the Blaugrana club, the audiovisual digital work of art has been produced in collaboration with BCN Visuals -innovation technology company that made the best advertisement of 2021 in Europe or created the Coca-Cola Christmas campaign in Times Square- and it is "worthy of Hollywood".

The work recreates the moment of Johan Cruyff scoring the iconic goal against Miguel Reina at the Camp Nou, on December 22, 1973.

The auction of this audiovisual digital work of art will be without reservation, the bidding will open today, and it will be hybrid, online and live in the prestigious New York auction room (the sale will be on July 29). It will include the unique animated edition of In a way, immortal, as well as four additional NFTs that each include a still image from the animated version capturing the moment of the goal.

Whoever acquires the work - whose name is inspired by a quote from Cruyff - will receive several benefits and VIP experiences related to Barça, as well as recognition as a Barça Digital Ambassador.

FC Barcelona's intention with this first NFT is to create a collection of ten works that will be presented piece by piece in the coming months, each one with emblematic moments and characters from the club. It is a strategic commitment by Barça to embrace technology and innovation, and create unforgettable cultural moments with the aim of educating and inspiring millennial, xenial and generation Z fans.
