Denmark will wear a special shirt at the World Cup to protest against Qatar

The World Cup in Qatar will attract all eyes, the majority of admiration and expectation towards the participating teams, but also disapproval towards an Arab country where many human rights are not fulfilled. To the many voices over recent years asking for justice, the latest protest has been added through the Denmark shirt, which will wear without any symbol, dyed entirely red.

"We wanted to send a double message. They are not only inspired by Euro 92 (won by Denmark), but it is also a protest against Qatar and its record with human rights. That is why we have toned down all the details of the new shirts of the World Cup in Denmark, including our logo and crest," posted on Instagram the brand that dresses the Danes, Hummel, who has also followed the same pattern with the all-white away kit.

As for the third shirt, black, they wanted to remember the thousands of immigrants who died during the construction of the stadiums in Qatar and other infrastructure related to the preparation of the World Cup. Several organizations have denounced this dramatic situation and have asked for compensation for the affected families, but for the time being the response from both Qatar and FIFA has been insufficient.

"The color of mourning. While we support the Danish national team at all times, this should not be confused with supporting a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives," Hummel said of the meaning of the black jersey. On a sporting level, Denmark beat current world champion France in the Nations League this Sunday, and will open in Qatar on November 22 against Tunisia.

Denmark, number 10 in the FIFA world ranking that reached the semifinals of the last European Championship, is one of the 32 teams participating in the World Cup that has meant the most against Qatar. The Danish federation joined a European campaign launched last week for captains to wear multicolored heart-shaped armbands.

For their part, Danish officials have also taken a leading role in monitoring the progression of promised reforms in Qatar's labor laws, which, among other things, have promised an improvement in the system for compensating victims during the construction of the stadiums.
