Delibes calls for the withdrawal of the Irrigation Law: "Don't make this absurd war fatter anymore"

The long-awaited appearance of the president of the Doñana Participation Council, Miguel Delibes, arrived at the Andalusian Parliament on Tuesday, the last of the day and one of the few critical voices that spoke yesterday during the process of the PP and Vox Law proposal that intends to legalize illegal irrigation in Doñana. There, he has considered that, at this point, one can choose between "making this absurd war fatter" or "offering a peace that allows everyone to work together, seeking consensus."

In addition, Delibes has demanded the withdrawal of the proposed law because it only generates "insecurity", is based on a "calculation error" and, with all certainty, it will be appealed in the Constitutional Court and will cause multimillion-dollar sanctions from the European Union.

"The unfortunate reality is that Doñana is dry, its lagoons disappear covered by trees and bushes, and the associated fauna does so with it," said Delibes, who criticized the fact that the scientists from the Doñana Biological Station or the irrigators did not appear They do not support the law.

It is also real, according to Delibes, "that the aquifers are descending" and that many farmers, "overwhelmed" because their wells "languish", open others in different places and others are "drown by fines". For all this, he asks the proponents to have the "political courage" to withdraw the bill: "Be brave and understand it as a victory and not a defeat."

He has lamented the "greatest institutional, political and social crisis" around Doñana "in a long time", and has called for political courage to "stop the snowball" by withdrawing the proposal, since he considers that not only the preservation of Doñana, but also "social peace", the future of farmers and the brand image of Andalusia in Spain and in the world.

He has indicated that sometimes he thinks there is a "cat locked up" and has questioned whether it will be to waive fines, stop procedures, continue pumping water, convert criminal offenses into administrative ones, revalue rainfed land or divert the committed transfer to other areas.

At the beginning of his speech, Delibes said that he appeared "as an intruder" because he had not received a summons, but when he found out "through friends" he looked for him on the Parliament's website, printed the page and at the door they have "left him get in". The president of the commission, the deputy of the PP-A, Ana Chocano, has apologized for this fact and has guaranteed that the summons was sent to her via email, while she has reproached the PSOE-A for having "insinuated " that it has been possible to act in "bad faith" by the services of the Chamber in charge of that task.

Miguel Delibes has stated that the current bill seems to him as "inadequate" as the one that was presented in the previous legislature (and on which he also gave an opinion in Parliament), but that now it came in "peace" because his capacity of indignation "has become saturated" and fattening more "this media and political war" does nothing to help Doñana, the county or the red fruits.
