The Sau reservoir has recovered a lot of water compared to spring, when it reached 8% of its capacity, but, after exceeding 30% with the last phase of rains at the beginning of summer, it is once again entering a phase at it falls due to the first great heat wave of the summer season.
In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see some comparative images of when the reservoir was at its lowest point and how today it seems to want to fight to avoid losing the flow it has gained. But, the wounds of the drought are deeper than it might seem.
The truth is that, after the gift of the last rains in May and early June, a turning point seems to have already taken place, with which the entry of water into the reservoirs of the Ter-Llobregat system has slowed down.
However, the rains transformed the landscape of Sau. It is no longer that arid place that it had become at the end of winter and beginning of spring, but now you can enjoy a more landscaped environment. But, it is necessary for it to continue raining so that it does not change again. If not, the summer could be very long.
The Sau reservoir, in the municipality of Vilanova de Sau, at the foot of the Guilleries massif, belongs to the Ter river basin. It is part of a system of three swamps (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that unites the counties of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, and Selva, in the province of Girona.
The reservoir, inaugurated in 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the bell tower of the temple, are visible when the dammed water level is low.
