The Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat has decreed the first biological ban on rock octopus in Terres de l'Ebre (Tarragona), which came into force in July and runs throughout August with the aim of "increase the population of this species".
This ban consists of making the fishing stoppage coincide with the period in which the female rock octopus are in the egg-laying phase in this territory, the Ministry reported this Monday in a statement.
The measure is part of the Management Plan for the Terres de l'Ebre rock octopus caught with a bucket and pot, which came into force on July 28 and determines the need for a special permit, a census of vessels and signage and the simultaneity with other arts, among others.
