David Bustamante: "'Ghost' is the love story of my parents"

"I've known what a ghost is since I was 17... The lies I've had to tell." This is how David Bustamante has expressed himself before the challenge of representing Sam, the protagonist of Ghost, in the musical version that is presented at the Tívoli theater (tickets with a 15% discount on Club Vanguardia, here).

Sam dies early in the story and appears as a spirit to solve the problems of his partner, Molly, played by Ana Dachs.

The singer from San Vicente de la Barquera wasted sympathy and some phrases in Catalan, "I trained in Barcelona", during the presentation of the show, which can be seen until November 27.

Bustamante has had to take acting classes, but did not hesitate to accept the proposal of Silvia Montesinos, responsible for the script and the adaptation of the lyrics, in addition to serving as resident director.

"After a 25-year career, continuing to learn is very nice," continues Bustamante. "A musical has little to do with a concert. In concerts I pour myself into my audience, here it is inside, towards the character".

The singer's yes was immediate. "Actually, my mother decided for me," he jokes. But it is a relative joke, since his life has been closely linked to the film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in 1990: "Ghost is the love story of my parents. In fact, in the video of my first communion they put Unchained melody".

"Also, we've had a little dog named Ghost and a little dog named Molly," explains the singer. "In my life it has been an ever-present movie." But he also refers to his daughter's response: "At first she didn't understand why we started singing, and we had to explain to her that it was a musical."

Now he could not give up musical theater, which he wants to alternate with his concerts, but he admits that his landing was not easy: "It has been very hard, but it is an incredible adventure. And I am no longer a rookie, I have already performed 150 performances. I passed very scared until the day of the premiere, and since then I've been enjoying it, but I'm still nervous, good nerves".

Bustamante affirms that "love is the engine of the world and when you are sick it relieves you", but he has not been able to include his song in the show Give me back the life that you have taken from me, so in keeping with the argument: "They don't let me put it on because Montesinos is very purist".
