Daniel Sirera proposes to rename Sants station with the name of Montserrat Caballé

Following in the wake of the Puerta de Atocha stations in Madrid, renamed Almudena Grandes in memory of the writer who died in 2021; from Málaga, to whose name that of the philosopher María Zambrano has been juxtaposed, or from Segovia, which recalls the figure of Guiomar, the muse of Antonio Machado, the PP candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Daniel Sirera, has proposed this Wednesday Adif to rename the Barcelona-Sants station as Montserrat Caballé station.

"In other cities, stations have already been renamed with women's names, but not in Sants. We believe that there is a Catalan woman on all four sides who carried the name of Barcelona around the world and to whom Catalan society has not done justice: Montserrat Caballé", Sirera stated in statements to the media in the Països Catalans square, opposite the Sants station.

For the PP candidate for the municipal elections on May 28 in Barcelona, the soprano was a woman "whom the sectarianism of some who govern the city keeps forgotten", for which she has made a public appeal to pay tribute to her renaming such an outstanding place as the central station, until the Sagrera station, in the Catalan capital, is inaugurated.

"No one like Montserrat Caballé brought the city closer to the world", praised Sirera, for whom "Sants is the gateway to Barcelona and must bear her name, a symbol of open and Olympic Barcelona", stressed the PP candidate. "Caballé represents the complete opposite of what the last governments in Barcelona have represented", the opening to the world, he highlighted. "She has been our best ambassador", added the PP mayor, who presents himself as "the only party that can represent Catalan and Spanish Barcelona".

In this sense, Sirera has announced that the PP has already launched negotiations in the Congress of Deputies so that Adif changes the name as soon as possible.
