Daniel Sancho suffers a "slump" since he entered prison in Thailand

These are not being easy days for the actor Rodolfo Sancho and his family. His son Daniel is in provisional prison in Thailand after having confessed to the murder and dismemberment of Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, a Colombian surgeon with whom he was on vacation on an island in the Asian country. The case has generated a great deal of media coverage, and with each passing day more details about the crime and about the environment of the victim and the alleged murderer come to light. Now a young man's lawyer has revealed how Daniel is mentally, who has been in one of the best-known prisons in the country since last Monday.

Daniel is incarcerated in the Koh Samui prison, one of the largest and "precarious" in Thailand. His lawyers are now working to prevent him from being transferred to the maximum security prison in Bangkok, but they want him to continue to be isolated from the rest of the prisoners in the island's prison to thus take care of his physical integrity. This was confirmed by one of his lawyers, Ramón Chippirrás, to El Periódico this Sunday.

The lawyer for the son of the Mar de Plástico interpreter has also assured the aforementioned medium that the 29-year-old has suffered a "declining mood" since he entered prison. Daniel is now in the prison infirmary, since he must comply with the prison's anti-covid protocol, which marks 10 days of isolation for all new inmates. After complying with this protocol, Sancho must go to the prisoner module and share a cell "with 30 other people," explains his lawyer to El Periódico.

After the crime came to light, last Saturday, August 5, the local authorities already expressed that the young man would have been somewhat anxious after his arrest. After being detained for immigration offenses and having his visa revoked, he showed clear signs of stress. "I have instructed the police to keep a close eye on him for fear that he may resort to suicide," the chief of the Koh Pha Ngan police station said at the time.

However, the person in charge of the prison, Watcharapong Boonsaior, pointed out last Wednesday that the detainee did not show "signs of fear or anxiety." On the other hand, it has come to light that when he was admitted, his hair was also shaved to prevent him from getting lice and some sources add that he practices yoga in the cell, which he currently shares with four other people. Be that as it may, everything seems that now his state of mind has declined, as his lawyer points out.

According to the young man's lawyers, Anan Chuayprabat and Fernando Oca, the Thai police have so far ruled on two charges against Daniel Sancho. "One is the premeditated murder and the other is the concealment of evidence of a crime of a crime," collects EFE. Although the investigation is still open, he does not believe they will add more charges. Although it is unknown what the final sentence will be, everything indicates that the renowned chef will face a high penalty for the murder and subsequent dismemberment.
