Cristiano Ronaldo: "Signing for Al Nassr is not a step backwards in my career"

Cristiano Ronaldo (Funchal, 1985) has been presented this Tuesday as a new player for Al Nassr, a Saudi Arabian league team. The Portuguese has signed the highest contract in the history of football, for which he will earn 200 million euros per year in his two and a half-year contract as a footballer. "It is a unique contract because I am a unique player, for me it is normal," he declared in the press room at Mrsool Park, his new stadium, with his usual modesty.

Cristiano, sitting in the press room, although questioned only by the presenter of the event, defended his decision to sign for a Saudi team. "In Europe the work is already done, I have played in the best clubs and I have won everything," he began. "I don't pay much attention to what people can say, signing for Al Nassr is not a step back in my career. Football in the last 15 years has changed and any team is more than prepared for the highest level and the league Saudi Arabia is very competitive, I say this because I know, I've seen many games", added the Portuguese striker.

During the questions to which the presenter, a self-declared fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, submitted to him, the footballer revealed that he had received many offers. "I have been called by important teams from Europe, Brazil, Australia, even Portugal and the United States, but I had given my word to Al Nassr," he concluded.

The signing of Cristiano transcends what happens on the pitch. "I come to try to help the development of the youngest, of women's football, because people may not know that Al Nassr also has a women's team. I want to be part of the success of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its culture," he snapped.

There is still no official date for Cristiano's debut with his new team. Al Nassr will face Al Taee in a league match on Thursday and the Portuguese volunteered to debut that day with laughter. "The most important thing of all is what happens on the green, we need to train and play," Rudi Garcia, his new coach, limited himself to responding.
